Come and discuss all things related to the legal side of your own content and the use of the content made by others.

As I mentioned elsewhere, I am happy to moderate this panel, again, as well as track down some expert participants. Courtney Lytle Perry, the very nice lawyer we borrowed from the EFF track last year, expressed an interest in being included again this year. I also believe The Vicar has already expressed an interest, with which I am agreeable given his background in traditional broadcasting.

Very cool,
If you can put that together again we'd be much grateful. At least this year.... we won't have the dissenting people here this time around. :)

I just corresponded with Randy Chertkow and Jason Feehan of Beatnik Turtle. They will be at D*C again this year and have agreed to be on this panel, again.
That makes the current, confirmed panelists:
* Randy Chertkow
* Jason Feehan
* Jon Stallard
I will contact Courtney this week to confirm.
What is the upper limit on panelists this year? Is four sufficient? I have one more in mind though I do not know whether he'll be coming to D*C this year.

We like to keep it between 2 - 5 people on a panel, makes it less of a headache for the audience. Sometimes, we have done more, when it is warranted, some topics have too many big names to NOT put them all on a panel.
I put those three on the panel. Let me know if there are more, I think this topic can easily handle 5, especially if there are some good legal types in the discussion. :)

Last year's panel on the CC and Legal Issues was fascinating. Jason and I (this is Randy writing this) are looking forward to getting up there again.
I have to share something related to this, and you guys are some of the few that will understand how cool it is: We contacted Lawrence Lessig about our upcoming book, the Indie Band Survival Guide, which has a whole section that talks about the Creative Commons as well as using copyright to promote your own music. He's naturally quoted and discussed in it. We sent him a copy, and after reading it, he liked it so much he blurbed our book:
"The Internet is an extraordinary opportunity for musicians to make and profit from their music. This clearly written and comprehensive book shows exactly how. A perfect balance between the mess of the law and the promise of the technology, it should be read by anyone who wants to take their talent and share it—for the love of sharing, or for the profit."—Lawrence Lessig, author of Code, professor at Stanford Law School, founder of the Center for the Internet and Society, and CEO of the Creative Commons project
So this panel is especially apropos for us this year, and we can't wait to participate.
See you at the 'con!

VERY cool!
Did you already get with Command Line to let him know you want to be on the CC panel again this year?

I just got in touch with Courtney Lytle Perry who was on the panel last year and she is agreeable to joining us again this year.
Even if it is too late to list her on the official, final schedule, is it too late for her to be on the panel anyway?

Definately not,
The only 'big' requirement we have for panels is that they really don't want us to have more than 7 people on a panel. I guess the con gets way too many complaints about panels with too many people on them. So, just let Swoopy know so she can make sure to put her on the panel when the time comes. :)

Will do. I think we are well below the max number with just Jon, Jason, Randy, Courtney and myself as the mod.

Is there room for one more on the panel?
I do have some insight fromt he Canadian Radio Industry in regards to copyright and creative commons. Especially skirting the line for our Radio Show and making it a podcast.

The panel is indeed full. And The Vicar who is already on the panel is also an old radio industry veteran. We also have a couple of lawyers and a couple of independent musicians.
