OK...prepare to laugh at me...but I'm gonna ask anyway...

Do any of the staff members or anyone for that matter have any pull for panelist to be able to get ANY room in one of the 4 hotels? Is there a block of rooms that has been set aside for guests that is super seekrit?

You may commence laughing now.

We wouldn't laugh at you. ;)

By 'guests' do you mean the folks who end up in the Walk of Fame like actors and other celebrities or do you mean folks like us? :)

If it's folks like us then the answer is no...rooms go real fast and many months in advance.

The hotels are pretty full now. I waited until a couple weeks ago to make reservations, and as a result, I will have to alternate between two different hotels, checking in and out every single day. I sure hope the elevators aren't crowded. :D

:D

Keep in mind that since some of the hotels allow people to book a room without having to put down a deposit rooms will often just randomly start becoming available as we get closer to the con because there are some regular attendees who reserve rooms at multiple hotels and then cancellation some of those reservations once they decide where they are going to stay.

I know some people who literally call all of the official hotels everyday checking on available reservations. Sometimes they get lucky.

I sure hope the elevators aren't crowded. :D

That gave me a real good laugh.

I'll be doing the call everyday probably however I did find a club room at the Sheraton so I put a deposit on it. I really had hoped to avoid having to put money down RIGHT NOW but I'll do what I gotta.

Thanks for replying.

From what I heard...

From now until forever, all the big hotels will REQUIRE a deposit when you make a reservation in advance. Of course, you still get 24 hours to cancel before the date of the reservation. But... they got wise to our old Dragon*Con hotel trickery... It was losing them money AND making other guests mad.

I'd also keep an eye on the Dragon-Con Live Journal page (http://community.livejournal.com/dragoncon/) for people canceling their room reservations.
